Updates Coming Soon!

I edited my last post with a better quality picture of my Whistler/De Kooning, looks much better now, enlarge it to see the texture.

I will be uploading six (maybe five) of my latest paintings this weekend, pretty much all the oils I've done all semester in Intermediate II with Denis Sargent. I will have a traditional self portrait, an expressionist self portrait, a social/political piece, an abstract piece, and a palimpsest-like painting. I might include the others I did, but I don't really care for them at the moment. I might even go back and upload some much older stuff for fun, but that work seems less and less relevant every day.

Be sure to check out my friend Matt's work:

And Chris Jordan is giving a gallery talk Friday at 4PM at the UWM Union Art Gallery:

De Kooning and Whistler

In the Spring I had a project where I was to take a portrait that was painted in the "classic" sense, and paint in the style of another artist of our choosing. This is where I really discovered Willem De Kooning's work, particularly his women series. His work still influences me in almost every thing I do.

So I took Whistler's "Symphony in White, No.1: The White Girl":

And studied De Kooning's "Woman":

And ended up with this (Click to enlarge):
